Windsurfing and Kite boarding
After good wind and perfect conditions for our wind sports last week the tropical storm Fay was passing our island at Saturday night and was blocking our wind system for 2 days from Friday through Saturday and brought us a lot of rain on Saturday and the whole night to Sunday. On Sunday it cleared up already and the winds were starting slowly and not very powerful. Monday was better, but still the power is just enough for Kite surfing and windsurfing with big equipment.
Surfing and Body boarding.
The surfers instead were very happy with the storm, because after weeks with small waves or Flat Ocean we saw some nice surf at the north coast with waves up to 8 ft at Encuentro on the weekend.

Situation
The trade winds are still disturbed by tropical storm Fay and an other tropical wave coming from East and the global situation in the northern Atlantic. We get wind from East every day, but it looks like that there is missing good power to force our sails and Kites. We need good thermal help to get planning and enjoyable conditions this week. Rain is forecasted just a little on Wednesday afternoon. The surf too is not that big anymore and the swells are rolling from East which will not promise a lot of power for our spots.

Forecast (Tues, Aug 19, 2008)
Wind: between 6-9 KN from SE/E, picking up to 8-12KN or more in the afternoon. We need more thermal help to get strong wind.
Shore break at Cabarete: 1-2 ft
Swell: 3-4 ft E with 8-9 sec. wave period
Surf at Encuentro: the surf is not that big anymore, but still good for beginners or long boarding and possible for some short board action in the early morning.

Forecast (Wed, Aug 20, 2008)
Wind: between 6-9 KN from E and stronger with thermal help in the afternoon. 12-16 KN or more are possible.
Shore break at Cabarete: 1-2 ft
Swell: 3-4 ft E with 8 sec wave period.
Surf at Encuentro: the surf is not changing a lot and conditions are decent for all levels of surfing.

Forecast (Thurs, Aug 21, 2008)
Wind: between 7-9 KN from E with strengthening in the afternoon to 12 KN or more.
Shore break at Cabarete: 1-2 ft
Swell: 2-4 ft rolling from NE/E with 8-5 sec. wave period
Surf at Encuentro: Surf is not very big but the waves could drop in better at Encuentro, because the direction is changing more to NE

Forecast (Fri, Aug 22, 2008)
Wind: between 4-8 KN from E and may be up to 12-16 KN in the afternoon. On one side we have a forecast with very slow wind on the other side we get predicted stronger winds in the afternoon. Let see what this real means for our winds.
Shore break at Cabarete: 1-2 ft
Swell: 3-4 ft rolling from NE/E with 5-6 sec. wave period
Surf at Encuentro: no big changes and the surf could be good for all levels of surfing

Forecast (Sat, Aug 23, 2008)
Wind: between 5-9 KN from E and strengthening up to 12 KN in the afternoon. We need luck to see good conditions for our wind sports.
Shore break at Cabarete: 1-2 ft
Swell: 3-5 ft E with 6-9 sec wave period.
Surf at Encuentro: slightly better surf, not much power, but should be good for all levels of surfing

Outlook for Sunday and Monday
The trade winds are still not working well but we hope that with thermal help we can see some stronger winds. Also the situation could change radically if an other tropical storm showing up. The swells are supposed to keep on rolling from East in the 3-5 ft range which could bring us small surf for all levels of surfing.

Windsurfing and Kite boarding
After some days lacking winds at the beginning of August the winds started blowing well last Thursday and conditions got better day by day. We saw some nice days with strong winds and even the waves got better over the weekend. Cabarete offered best conditions for windsurfing and Kite boarding.
Surfing and Body boarding.
The swells were down at the beginning of last week, but started growing on Thursday and the surf was nice in the early morning before the wind started blowing. Cabarete offered nice conditions for beginners and long boarding and since the weekend also some short board action in 3-4 ft waves was possible.

Situation
The trade winds are working well until Thursday, but than the winds get disturbed by 2 tropical waves which are passing our region. They are still far and it is not sure how they develop, but it looks like that the winds are not working well from Friday through Sunday. But the situation can change radically if one of these depressions turns to hurricane strength. The swells are supposed to roll from East in the 3-4 ft range until Saturday. There is no bigger swells expected out of this storms until now and waves are even supposed to go down on Sunday. But also this forecast can change fast when we get some tropical storms.

Forecast (Tues, Aug 12, 2008)
Wind: between 8-11 KN from E, picking up to 12-16 KN or more in the afternoon.
Shore break at Cabarete: 1-2 ft
Swell: 3-4 ft E with 6-7 sec. wave period
Surf at Encuentro: the surf is not that big, but better than last week and good for beginners or long boarding and possible for some short board action in the early morning.

Forecast (Wed, Aug 13, 2008)
Wind: between 7-11 KN from E and stronger with thermal help in the afternoon. 12-16 KN or more are possible.
Shore break at Cabarete: 1-2 ft
Swell: 3-4 ft E with 7 sec wave period.
Surf at Encuentro: the surf is growing a little bit and conditions are improving for all levels of surfing.

Forecast (Thurs, Aug 14, 2008)
Wind: between 5-10 KN from E with strengthening in the afternoon to 12-16 KN or more.
Shore break at Cabarete: 1-2 ft
Swell: 3-4 ft rolling from E with 7 sec. wave period
Surf at Encuentro: no big changes forecasted, but bigger swells are close and could also drop in.

Forecast (Fri, Aug 15, 2008)
Wind: between 4-9 KN from E-NE and may be up to 12-16 KN NE in the afternoon. We hardly see good conditions for windsurfing or Kite surfing.
Shore break at Cabarete: 1-2 ft
Swell: 3-4 ft rolling from E with 8 sec. wave period
Surf at Encuentro: no big changes and the surf could be good for all levels of surfing

Forecast (Sat, Aug 16, 2008)
Wind: between 6-8 KN from SE-E and strengthening up to 16 KN SE in the afternoon. We need luck to see good conditions for our wind sports.
Shore break at Cabarete: 1-2 ft
Swell: 3-4 ft E with 8 sec wave period.
Surf at Encuentro: small surf, not much power, but should be good for all levels of surfing

Outlook for Sunday and Monday
The trade winds are not working well and the forecast is very difficult, because we don’t know how these Tropical waves are going to develop or disappear. Wind forecast is better for Monday, but situation can change totally. The swells are supposed to go down on Sunday and should grow slightly on Monday, but also here the prediction is very difficult and situation could change radically.

Windsurfing and Kite boarding
Like we forecasted the winds were blowing from East, but they were not really strong and got disturbed by rain showers especially last Friday, when the wind could not develop at all. Best days were Tuesday and Wednesday. Surfing and Body boarding.
The swells too went down like we forecasted, but the surf was even smaller like we thought, especially after Friday.

Situation
Clouds or rain could disturb our fun until Wednesday. The trade winds are working well, but we need good thermal help to get strong wind. The swells are growing a little bit on Wednesday and they keep on rolling from East in the 4-5 ft level. This should bring us little better surf and good conditions for all level of surfing for this week.

Forecast (Tues, Aug 05, 2008)
Wind: between 5-10 KN from E, picking up to 12-16 KN or more in the afternoon. Clouds or rain could disturb our fun.
Shore break at Cabarete: 1-2 ft
Swell: 3-4 ft E with 6 sec. wave period
Surf at Encuentro: the surf is still very small and just good for beginners or long boarding.

Forecast (Wed, Aug 06, 2008)
Wind: between 9-14 KN from SE/E and stronger with thermal help in the afternoon. 12-16 KN or more are possible and the weather is improving in the afternoon.
Shore break at Cabarete: 1-2 ft
Swell: 4-5 ft E with 6 sec wave period.
Surf at Encuentro: the surf finally is growing a little bit and conditions are improving for all levels of surfing.

Forecast (Thurs, Aug 07, 2008)
Wind: between 10-12 KN from SE/E with strengthening in the afternoon to 12-16 KN or more.
Shore break at Cabarete: 1-2 ft
Swell: 4-5 ft rolling from E with 8 sec. wave period
Surf at Encuentro: still small surf with not much power, but conditions should be better than last week

Forecast (Fri, Aug 08, 2008)
Wind: between 9-12 KN from SE/E and up to 16 KN E possible in the afternoon.
Shore break at Cabarete: 1-2 ft
Swell: 4-5 ft rolling from E with 8-5 sec. wave period

Feedback
Windsurfing and Kite boarding
The Atlantic storm activity is totally down now. All storms disappeared and this might be the reason that we finally got some normal summer wind conditions the last two days with strong wind over 20 KN. Yesterday a heavy thunderstorm stopped all activities in the later afternoon, but today it was perfect all day long.
Surfing and Body boarding.
The swells were not big, but the mornings were offering nice and clean waves around 3 ft at Encuentro, perfect for beginners, Long boarding and some short board action on small waves.

Situation
There are no storms around and the Atlantic is even too quiet to produce good trade winds. We except good winds the next couple of days but than it could even drop down under the strength we like for windsurfing. But with some thermal help this could still develop to nice days. The swells are also very quiet, still rolling from east in the 3-5 ft range creating small conditions for all level of surfing the next days.

Forecast (Tues, July 29, 2008)
Wind: between 7-13 KN from E, picking up to 16-20 KN E or more in the afternoon.
Shore break at Cabarete: 1-2 ft
Swell: 3-5 ft E with 9 sec. wave period
Surf at Encuentro: the surf is perfect clean and glassy in the early morning with small size and conditions should be good for all levels of surfing

Forecast (Wed, July 30, 2008)
Wind: between 8-10 KN from E and stronger with thermal help in the afternoon. 12-16 KN or more are possible.
Shore break at Cabarete: 1-2 ft
Swell: 3-4 ft E with 8 sec wave period.
Surf at Encuentro: the surf is small and offering clean conditions for surfing in the early morning

Forecast (Thurs, July 31, 2008)
Wind: between 5-11 KN from E with strengthening in the afternoon to 16 KN or more. Just clouds or rain could disturb our fun.
Shore break at Cabarete: 1-2 ft
Swell: 3-4 ft rolling from E with 8-5 sec. wave period
Surf at Encuentro: small surf with not much power, but conditions should be good for beginners and long boarding in the morning

Forecast (Fri, Aug 01, 2008)
Wind: between 3-10 KN from E and up to 16 KN E possible in the afternoon. Congratulations to all our Swiss friends. May be they get some nice conditions for their national day.
Shore break at Cabarete: 1-2 ft
Swell: 3-4 ft rolling from E with 7 sec. wave period
Surf at Encuentro: no big changes and the surf will be good for all levels of surfing

Forecast (Sat, Aug 02, 2008)
Wind: between 6-13 KN from SE/E and strengthening up to 16 KN in the afternoon, some rain showers are possible
Shore break at Cabarete: 1-2 ft
Swell: 3-4 ft E with 8 sec wave period.
Surf at Encuentro: the surf is going down but the power is not that bad

Outlook for Sunday and Monday
The trade winds are not working perfect and they are missing the right power, but the winds are still supposed to blow from East and with thermal help they always can reach some nice strength for kite surfing and even windsurfing. Also the swells are not that big and on Monday it could be really flat if not some new storms were showing up, which we still can not see today.

Windsurfing and Kite boarding
Cabarete offered nice wind every day and finally also strong enough for good windsurfing with smaller sails and perfect for Kite surfing anyhow. The tropical wave was passing fast in the south and did not disturb so much our fun. Also the competitors of the Cabarete Classic windsurfing competition were happy and we saw nice formula races, exciting slalom fights around the bows and expressive Freestyle action with competitors from all over the world and from age 8 until 55.
Surfing and Body boarding.
The swells were also not so bad at the beginning of last week with waves up to 6 ft cooling down during the week to a 3-4 feet level and nice waves for all levels of surfing at Encuentro.

Situation
There were like 4 tropical waves, storms and Hurricanes in the Atlantic Ocean, but at least at our region things are passed and we are back on normal trade winds, which are supposed to blow every day now. The swells keep on running from east in the 3-5 ft range creating nice conditions for all level of surfing every day.

Forecast (Tues, July 22, 2008)
Wind: between 7-11 KN from SE/E, picking up to 12-16 KN E or more in the afternoon. Just clouds or rain could disturb our fun

Surf at Encuentro: the surf is going down but the power is going up.

Outlook for Sunday and Monday
There will be not so big changes the next days. The trade winds are supposed to blow from East with 10-15 KN and we hope for good thermal help to see stronger winds. Also the swells keep on running from East bring us decent waves for surfing.
